Beatties Ford Road MVA

At 1439 hours, Gilead Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a 2 vehicle accident at the intersection of Beatties Ford Road and Mountain Magesty Way.  Upon arrival, 2 vehicles were found, both drivers had been restrained with both vehicles air bags deployed.  Both drivers denied medical treatment.  Fluids in the roadway were contained and Gilead cleared the scene at 1501 hours.


 
   
   
 
Colonial Garden MVA

Gilead Fire & Rescue was dispatched at 0815 hours for a reported car over an embankment.  Gilead Engine 1 and Heavy  Rescue 1 responded to the scene, initially unable to find the accident.  After a brief search, Huntersville police located the car, which was 120 feet off the road into a culvert.  Patient care was initiated and after Medic arrived, the driver was loaded into a stokes basket and carried up the hill to the ambulance.  Gilead cleared the scene at 0855 hours.


 
   
   
 
Mountainview Drive Structure Fire

At 0013 hours, Cornelius Fire and Gilead Fire were dispatched to a possible structure fire.  As both companies were responding, numerous calls were received at Central Dispatch reporting heavy smoke and fire showing through the roof.  Cornelius Engine 4, Truck 4 and Cornelius 9 arrived to find a single story home with fire showing through the roof.  As Cornelius made the initial attack , Gilead Engine 1laid a 5 inch supply line to Cornelius Engine 4.  As additional Cornelius and Gilead members arrived, additional lines were advanced and the fire was extinguished.  The fire is under investigation by the Mecklenburg County Fire Marshall's office.  All Gilead units cleared the scene at 0339 hours. 


 
   
   
 
MVA - Sam Furr Road at Birkdale Commons

At 2109 hours, Gilead Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a 2 vehicle MVA at the intersection of Sam Furr Road and Birkdale Commons Parkway.  Gilead Engine 2 and Heavy Rescue 1 responded to find one vehicle with extensive passenger side damage and two people still in the vehicle.  Patient care was initiated on both patients and one door was popped to remove the front seat passenger.  Medic arrived on scene and transported both patients to the hospital.  Gilead cleared the scene at 2144 hours.


 
   
   
 
West Catawba Gas Leak

At 1557 hours, Gilead was dispatched to a gas leak behind Lake Norman Baptist Church.  Upon arrival, it was discovered that a contractor had cut one of the feed lines to the church.  Cornelius Fire was dispatched for assistance, since the primary hydrant was next to the broken line.  Piedmont Natural Gas arrived on scene and was able to isolate the leak.  All units cleared the scene at 1724 hours.


 
   
   
 
Ropes Training

On Sunday, September 21st, Chief Ben Reagan taught a ropes class on the hose tower at our station.  Included in the class was basic knots, how to harness, how to rappel and how to hang upside down.  Good times were had by all.


 
   
   
 
Lizzie Lane Lightning Strike

At 1758 hours, Huntersville Fire and Gilead Fire were dispatched to a reported house struck by lightning.  Both departments arrived on scene to find a house that had been struck, with a small fire in the attic.  Crews made a quick knock down, opened up the roof and vented the house.  The attic and roof area were overhauled and all Gilead cleared the scene at 1837 hours.


 
   
   
 
Bud Henderson Road MVC

At 0411, Gilead was dispatched to a reported vehicle overturned with entrapment.  Upon arrival, the driver had crawled out of the vehicle.  Spinal protocol was initiated and the driver was transported to the hospital.  All Gilead units cleared at 0440.


 
   
   
 
Journeys End Trail MVC

At 0002 hours, Gilead was dispatched to a reported 2 vehicle MVC.  Upon arrival, Engine 2 and Rescue 1 found a single vehicle with extensive front end damage.  The vehicle owners were in their home and reported that a second car had driven off.  There were no injuries and all Gilead units cleared at 0036 hours.


 
   
   
 
West Catawba Training Fire

On Saturday, August 2, 2008, we had a great opportunity to burn a house and get some live fire training.  The single story ranch had been involved in a fire this past spring and the owner allowed us to burn it down.  Thanks very much to Danny Houser for allowing us to use the house.

 
   
   
 
Wher-Rena Marine Fire

On July 31, 2008 at 23:35 Cornelius Fire Department was dispatched for a boat fire at the Wher-Rena Marina.  Gilead Fire & Rescue was added to the call when it was discovered the boat was near a structure.  Cornelius Engine 4 was first on the scene, reporting a fully involved house boat.  As Gilead Engine 1 was arriving on scene, Cornelius Engine 5 was securing a water supply.  Gilead Engine 1 pulled to the chain link fence and knocked the bulk of the fire down with the deck gun.  Cornelius Engine 5 laid into Gilead Engine 1, who then supplied Cornelius Engine 4.  Cornelius Hook & Ladder 44 arrived and laddered the roof to check for extension.  Crews were on scene for over 3 hours performing overhaul and checking for extension in the 6 other boats that were damaged in the fire.


 
   
   
 
MVC - Sam Furr at West Catawba

On the evening of July 31, 2008, Gilead Fire & Rescue and Medic were dispatched to a 2 vehicle MVC at the intersection of Sam Furr Road and West Catawba Avenue.  Gilead Engine 1 and Rescue 1 responded to a motorcycle vs. an SUV at the intersection, knocking the rider off the bike.  The driver of the SUV was shaken up, but was not transported to the hospital.  The driver of the motorcycle was placed in spinal protocol and transported to the hospital. 


 
   
   
 
Head On Collision HWY 73 @ the Lincoln County Line.

Gilead Heavy Rescue 1 & Engine 1, along with East Lincoln Engine 30 operate at a late after noon head on collision on Hwy 73.  The crews from Gilead and East Lincoln extricated one patient in addition to pacakging the other patients involved for transport.  Medic transported both patients to the nearest trauma center.  A special Thank You is expressed to the East Lincoln Fire Department for their outstanding assistance .

 
   
   
 
Structure Fire - Harbor Light Blvd.

In what would be a busy day for Gilead (9 calls total), Cornelius and Gilead were dispatched to a confirmed structure fire on Harbor Light Blvd.  Cornelius Engine 4, Engine 5 and Hook and Ladder 44 arrived and extinguished the fire.  Gilead Engine 1 and Rescue 1 arrived and assisted with salvage and overhaul.  The fire was confined to a small basement area and there were no injuries.


 
   
   
 
Stephen's Grove Annual Fourth of July Celebration

Gilead Fire & Rescue Participated in the annual Stephen’s Grove Fourth of July parade and festivities. This is one of the numerous events that take place annually in the Gilead response area on the fourth.
